After somehow cheating death in the previous two installments, Shao Kahn returns stronger and more than fully prepared in Mortal Kombat 11.

The emperor was already confirmed months back as a pre-order bonus character but only received his first-ever gameplay trailer mere days before the official launch. Unlike his previous iterations where he was intentionally designed to be pretty rigid, the new Shao Kahn has received a more fleshed out move-set.

He carries his iconic sledge hammer by default and uses it for pretty much all of his attacks. However, he can switch to his spear at will to either string combos or use as projectiles. In addition, Shao Kahn can resort to his signature shoulder charge and take a giant leap to pummel his opponents senseless. He has multiple grabs, including one where he breaks their backs over his shoulder.

Most importantly, Shao Kahn has his classic taunts to ridicule his enemies with. He can tell them that they suck or just stand there laughing. There are likely others as well.

Unfortunately, the footage doesn’t explain why Shao Kahn has a mutated left arm and scales all over his body. This is assumed to be part of the storyline but for the time being, the time-travel element has probably something to do with it.

Shao Kahn is probably going to be included with the first Kombat Pack that currently has Shang Tsung. However, pre-ordering right now will unlock the tyrant emperor for free, meaning that you can fill his boots from day-one.

You can check out the complete character roster here, as confirmed by NetherRealm Studios so far. With the latest reveal, there’s only one more spot to be filled. If recent rumors and leaks are accurate, which they seem to be, the last spot is going to go to Frost.

Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on April 23, 2019.
