Mortal Kombat 11 has only been around for a few weeks but the modding community has already gone to work to ensure a more pleasurable experience.
You might have noticed that the PC version has particular instances where the game gets locked at 30fps. This happens when browsing the main menu; during character introductions, Fatalities and Fatal Blows, and when exploring the Krypt. The core game — fighting in the arena — still runs at 60fps but for whatever reason, Mortal Kombat 11 scales down to 30fps for the aforementioned instances.
Thankfully, community modder Endri Lauson has released a mod to fix that annoying problem. His “FPS Cap Remover” mod ensures stable 60fps throughout the game. In addition, the mod adds support for ultrawide displays (21:9) as well by removing the black sidebars on the main menu and in the Krypt.
How to use the mod
- Download the mod here and unzip the folder
- Open the “FpsCapRemover_by_Endri_v1.001.exe” file within
- Start Mortal Kombat 11
- Press F11 to remove the 30fps cap and enable 60fps
- Press F10 to remove the black sidebars for ultrawide displays
Take note that your anti-virus might possibly flag the mod as a potential threat. According to the mod-creator, it’s a false flag due to the nature of the program. Know also that exiting the game for any reason will disable the mod. You’ll have to close and start the mod before starting the game again. Be warned that the Krypt needs dire optimizations from NetherRealm Studios. Hence, unless you have a high-end desktop system, you might not reach stable 60fps in the Krypt even with the mod.
Interestingly, the mod fixes a problem with the story campaign where the audio gets out of sync during cut-scenes. It appears that the high frame-rate allows the audio to catch up in time. This problem remains isolated to the PC version and NetherRealm Studios has mentioned that a future update will feature a fix.
Mortal Kombat 11 is now available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
