Cyberpunk 2077 features Keanu Reeves.

During a time when leaks are extremely rampant, it’s amazing that CD Projekt Red managed to hide such a massive secret for Cyberpunk 2077 this long.

Keanu Reeves, John Wick himself, will be starring in the upcoming dystopian role-playing game from the makers of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. You can imagine the surprise when a new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 ended with a character who bore his likeness. Now factor in that Reeves walked out onto the Microsoft stage at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 2019) to personally confirm his involvement and also to drop the release date. Suffice to say that everyone watching or streaming live went wild.

The developer did tease a few months ago that it would be bringing something special to E3 2019 but no one would have guessed Reeves to be part of the equation.

Cyberpunk 2077 was revealed last year with a debut and extended gameplay trailer after being announced nearly six years ago. The footage shared so far highlights a vast and impressive steampunk setting in a “dark future” where people have merged with machines to lose their humanity. The story design promises a nonlinear approach with sandbox elements, as well as some form of multiplayer — probably cooperative.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a highly anticipated game from CD Projekt Red and for good reason. It takes all of the best things from the Witcher trilogy and scales them up by ten folds as a role-playing shooter hybrid — a first for the studio. With Reeves’ involvement, there’s just another reason to pick up the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to release worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2020. You can start pre-ordering right now, as if you needed to be told to do so. CD Projekt Red probably has a few more aces up its sleeve to unveil before the launch next year.
